Mally provides an emotional rollercoaster ride
for the reader. It is unlike the majority of its genre in that
he is blatantly honest about his life experiences and that
includes holing his hand up when his own actions have led to
periods in approved school and prison. Early years and life with
a brutal father whose harsh beatings and sadistic discipline
over the boy, his siblings and adored mother, leads him to
contemplate murder. The violence and humiliation would have
crushed a young person of less strength of character. His lot in
institutions designed to care and change the lives of children
and young offenders enhance the unease today when allegations
over child abuse and maltreatment leak into the public domain
today. Yet throughout, this conversational style of writing is
laced with great humour. His stories of times at sea, of efforts
to build his business and those who conned him, his struggles
with the City Council, Government agencies and the media show
his unending effort to turn life around and find a new
direction. The account of the Big Brother audition and
subsequent success on DOND will tickle you all. As for BB, the
briefest of time spent in that nightmare with the present
occupants would make me suicidal or commit mass murder.
As well as being a fantastically good read for most, it should
be a must for everyone in the care or custodial professions and
policy think tanks as a study text.
I cannot wait for the sequels, nor to place an order for further
copies of MALLY THE BOY WHO FLEW THROUGH WINDOWS.

Mally, I hope you don't mind
me writing this but I feel as a friend I need to blow your
trumpet! You might be embarrassed by what I am about to type
here but for the few of us who spent the time with you in
Bristol and subsequent events - I am privileged and honoured to
have met such a wonderful person and someone I can call a
friend. Your book is an inspiration as I have already told you
but for those of you who are yet to read "Mally the Boy" it
really does make you think and question life and the road or
path we choose. Mally is a rough diamond! First impressions can
be deceiving, but never have I met or encountered a person with
so much heart and sincerity. The book conveys this message in a
sad yet contradictory funny way! It also demonstrates one man's
perseverance to overcome all odds and change one's life! One
thing I will personally take from this, the first of three
instalments is that there is no such thing as failure - only
learning curves.
I hope you all enjoy the book as much as I did.....
